We are seeking a dynamic finance professional with strong technical expertise and systems knowledge to help drive our client's mission globally. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced leader with 7–10 years of nonprofit accounting and finance experience. Ideal candidates will have a background in accounting or audit, followed by demonstrated success in analyzing, presenting, and reporting financial data to executive leadership and external stakeholders.
As Director of Finance, you will oversee financial reporting, compliance, and general accounting operations, with a focus on revenue recognition and grant administration. You will collaborate cross-functionally with teams such as procurement, payroll, and disbursements. This role requires experience managing financial operations in complex nonprofit organizations with diverse programs, revenue streams, and multi-currency transactions.
Key Responsibilities:
Nonprofit Accounting
- Oversee financial operations for grants, programs, and overhead accounting.
- Ensure expenditures align with grant and program budgets throughout the grant lifecycle.
- Demonstrate expertise in donor compliance and reporting for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
- Manage NICRA, provisional fringe accounting, and reconciliations.
- Account for gift-in-kind revenue and expenses, including valuation and documentation.
General Ledger & Systems
- Oversee accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems for compliance with GAAP, CFR, and (ideally) IFRS standards.
- Leverage advanced knowledge of accounting systems such as Sage Intacct.
- Lead monthly and annual close processes.
- Manage financial reporting, budget development, and accounting for payroll, investments, NICRA, and other nonprofit-specific activities.
FP&A (Financial Planning and Analysis)
- Conduct ongoing financial forecasting, scenario analysis, and variance reporting.
- Provide strategic insights to optimize resource allocation and financial decision-making.
- Partner with leadership on long-term financial planning, funding strategy, and risk management.
- Develop dashboards and KPIs to track financial performance and outcomes.
Audit & Internal Controls
- Coordinate annual audits, including PBC preparation and external auditor relationships.
- Manage donor-related audits alongside field programs.
- Oversee compliance filings such as the 990 and other registration requirements.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and policies, recommending enhancements as needed.
Analysis & Reporting
- Present financial data and complex concepts to finance and non-finance leaders.
- Provide timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Collaborate on annual budgeting and strategic planning processes.
Team Leadership
- Mentor and develop finance team members, enhancing overall skills and capabilities.
- Foster a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive team culture.

Communications
- Communicate key financial data to senior management and external stakeholders.
- Strengthen internal communication, promoting transparency across all levels of the organization.
Qualifications
- 7–10 years of experience managing nonprofit accounting, including grants, GIK, and NICRA.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and CFR; familiarity with IFRS preferred.
- Minimum BA/BS in Accounting or Finance; MBA or CPA highly desirable.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems.
